GetLadle: the food organiser for people who feed people.

How GetLadle handles personal information

This policy explains, at a practical level, what data GetLadle collects, how it is used, and the choices available to users.

Last updated: October 9, 2026.

Who we are

GetLadle is a recipe, meal planning, and gathering app operated by GETLADLE Inc., a company incorporated in Canada and headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. The GetLadle iOS app is published on the App Store under the developer account of its founder, Jesse Sharratt, on behalf of GETLADLE Inc. This policy covers the GetLadle website at getladle.com, the GetLadle mobile apps, and a GetLadle connection you choose to add inside ChatGPT. For any privacy question or request, including anything you would address to a data protection contact, email support@getladle.com.

What we collect

Account and profile: your name, email address, and either a password (stored in hashed form by our authentication provider) or the Apple or Google account you choose to sign in with, plus an optional profile photo and an optional phone number. Content you create: recipes, cookbooks, photos, comments, notes, shopping lists, meal plans, events and potluck sign-ups, circle membership, and the support or feedback messages you send us. Household details you choose to add: the names, age groups, allergies, dietary preferences, and dislikes of the people you cook for. Purchases: your plan tier and purchase history, alongside the payment records our payment providers keep. Device and technical data: device and browser information, log data, a device push token if you enable push notifications, and a short-lived session identifier used to count visits. Diagnostics: crash reports and performance data when something goes wrong.

Information you give us about other people

Several features ask you for details about people who may not have a GetLadle account. When you invite someone to a circle or an event, or record a guest's RSVP or the dish they are bringing, we store the name and email address you provide so the invitation, the reminder, and the event page work. When you add household members, we store what you enter about them, which can include a child in your household. Please add only details you are entitled to share, and, for a child, only what you are comfortable holding on their behalf as their parent or guardian. Anyone whose details appear in GetLadle can email support@getladle.com to ask what we hold about them and to have it removed.

How we use information

We use information to operate GetLadle, authenticate you (including optional two-factor codes sent to your email), deliver the features you use, send the notifications and reminders you turn on by email, text message, or push notification, process purchases and keep your plan in sync across devices, answer support requests, keep the service secure and investigate abuse, diagnose crashes and performance problems, and understand at an aggregate level how the product is used. We do not sell personal information, we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps and websites.

Why we are allowed to use it

Where privacy law asks us to identify a legal basis, we rely on the following. Performing our agreement with you, for everything needed to run your account and deliver the features you asked for. Your consent, for text message reminders, push notifications, marketing email, and the optional AI features described below, each of which you can withdraw. Our legitimate interests, for security, abuse prevention, diagnostics, and understanding product usage in aggregate. Legal obligation, where a law, tax rule, or valid legal request requires us to keep or disclose something. In Canada we operate under PIPEDA and rely on your consent, express or implied by the action you take, in the way that statute describes.

Recipes, circles, and shared content

Recipes and other content you save for yourself stay tied to your account. Content you share into a circle, an event, or another collaborative area is visible to the people you shared it with, and they may be able to copy or save it. Public links and public recipes are visible to anyone who has the link, including search engines if the page is indexable. Removing content from GetLadle does not retrieve copies other people already saved.

AI features and what they send

Some features send content you supply to third-party AI providers so the feature can do its work. Importing a recipe from a link or a photo sends the page text or the image to Anthropic’s Claude API. Recipe enrichments, meal-plan suggestions, origin stories, and assistant-style replies inside the app also use the Claude API. Generated recipe images use OpenAI’s image API. A nutrition estimate from a photo of your plate sends that photo to the Claude API. This content is sent only when you use the feature, is used to return the result you asked for, and is not used by us to train AI models. We access these providers through their commercial APIs rather than their consumer products. AI output can be wrong, so treat ingredient, allergen, and nutrition results as estimates and check anything that matters.

Recipe import and food lookups

When you import a recipe from a link, we fetch the page you gave us, in some cases through a third-party page-fetching service, so that sites which block direct requests still work. The barcode scanner sends the scanned barcode to food databases, currently FatSecret and Open Food Facts, to look up product information. The barcode alone is sent for that lookup, not a photo and not your location.

Camera, photos, and device permissions

On mobile, GetLadle asks for camera access so you can photograph recipes, scan barcodes in the Food Scanner, and capture dishes and event moments; for photo library access so you can attach photos to recipes, galleries, and event memories; and for permission to save photos you download from circles and events back to your library. You can grant or revoke each of these at any time in your device settings, and the rest of the app keeps working without them. Photos you attach are stored with your account and appear only where you place them.

Notifications: email, text message, and push

Account and transactional email is sent through our email provider. If you add a phone number and turn on text reminders, your number is used to send those messages through our SMS provider, and standard message and data rates may apply. If you enable push notifications on a mobile device, we store a device push token and deliver messages through Apple Push Notification service. Turning a channel off in settings stops it, and deleting the app or signing out invalidates the push token for that device.

Cookies and similar technologies

We and our service providers use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, maintain security, and measure product performance. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Visit counting is first party: we record a session identifier, the referring site’s host name, and a coarse device classification, and we do not store your IP address for that purpose. Web pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives the request for those font files, including the IP address your browser sends with it.

ChatGPT

If you connect GetLadle inside ChatGPT, ChatGPT sends the requests you make there to GetLadle, and GetLadle returns the recipes, meal plan, shopping list, and pantry contents needed to answer them. It can also return recipes their cooks have marked public, the same shelf as Explore, and can save a copy of one of those into the account you connect. A private recipe is not included in that shelf. That uses the GetLadle account you approve on the connection screen. We receive the tool request, not your broader ChatGPT conversation history. You can disconnect GetLadle from ChatGPT in ChatGPT’s settings, which stops new requests. Email support@getladle.com if you also want the saved authorization removed from your GetLadle account. Connecting ChatGPT does not start a purchase or change your plan.

Service providers

We rely on the following providers to run GetLadle. Supabase for the database, authentication, file storage, and server functions, with our primary data hosted in its Canadian region. Vercel for website hosting and delivery. Resend for account and transactional email. Twilio for text message reminders where those are enabled. Apple Push Notification service for push delivery on iOS. Stripe for payments made on the web. Apple for In-App Purchase on iOS, with RevenueCat validating those purchases and managing entitlements. Anthropic and OpenAI for the AI features described above. A third-party page-fetching service for recipe imports. FatSecret and Open Food Facts for barcode and food data. Sentry for crash and performance diagnostics. Google Fonts for web typography. These providers process personal information on our behalf under contract, except the app stores and public food databases, which operate their own services.

Where information is stored

Our primary database and file storage are hosted in Canada. Several of the providers listed above operate in the United States and elsewhere, so information may be processed outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. Where that applies to you, we rely on the standard contractual clauses or equivalent transfer safeguards those providers offer. Information held in any country can be subject to lawful access requests under that country’s laws.

Crash reports and diagnostics

We use Sentry to record errors and performance problems. The SDK is configured not to collect personal data on its own: IP addresses, cookies, and request bodies are not sent. We do deliberately attach your account identifier and email address to error reports so we can recognise a repeat problem and tell you when it is fixed. Session replay is captured only when an error occurs, never for ordinary browsing, and performance traces are sampled rather than recorded in full.

Legal and safety disclosures

We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to a valid legal request, to protect the rights or safety of users or the public, or to investigate abuse, fraud, or a security incident. If GetLadle is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, and this policy continues to apply until the recipient posts a replacement.

Data retention

We keep account information for as long as your account exists, and content for as long as you keep it in the app. Content you delete in the app is removed from the live service. Moderation records, meaning reports filed about content or conduct, are kept as a safety record even after the accounts involved are gone. Purchase, billing, and tax records are held by our payment providers for the period their own legal obligations require. Backups and server logs are retained for a limited period on our providers’ schedules, so recently deleted information can persist there briefly before it rolls off.

Deleting your account

You can permanently delete your account from within the app, in Settings. Deletion removes your authentication record so the account can no longer sign in, deletes the rows you own across our database (recipes, cookbooks, meal plans, shopping lists, events and circles you administer, invitations, notifications addressed to you, feedback you filed, and their associated child records), deletes your uploaded files from storage, and removes your address from the membership lists of circles you only belonged to. Three things are deliberately not deleted, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. Where you appear only as the actor in someone else’s notification, we strip your email address, name, and photo from that row instead of deleting another person’s feed item, so your display name may still appear inside that older message text. Moderation reports about content or conduct are retained as evidence. An event slot you had claimed is released back to the host rather than deleted, because the slot belongs to the host’s event. Backups and provider-side billing records follow the retention described above.

Your rights and choices

You can view and correct most of your information directly in the app, choose which notifications you receive and on which channel, turn two-factor authentication on or off, block other users, and delete your account. You can also email support@getladle.com to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, correction of anything inaccurate, deletion, a copy of your information in a portable format, or withdrawal of a consent you gave earlier. We will ask you to verify the request from the email address on the account. We respond within the time limits that apply to us, and within one month where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies. There is no charge, except where the law allows one for repetitive or excessive requests. If you are in Canada and are unhappy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can complain to your local supervisory authority.

Children

GetLadle is rated 13+ and is intended for people aged 13 and over. You must be at least 13 to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child under 13. Household details about a child, such as a name, age group, and allergies, are entered by the adult account holder about their own household rather than collected from the child, and the account holder can edit or remove them at any time. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email support@getladle.com and we will remove it.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational measures to protect information, including encrypted connections, row-level access rules in our database, hashed passwords held by our authentication provider, and optional two-factor authentication on your account. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version here and update the date below. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will give you notice in the app or by email before it takes effect.
